Description
Simplified management

For simplified administration, organizations can utilize the same familiar B-series Fabric OS (FOS) and SAN management tools that they use to operate and manage other B-series SAN Switch to leverage expertise and training across the data center staff.

Next generation Fiber Channel and FCIP technology

The HPE StorageWorks 1606 Extension SAN Switch moves more data faster and further with 8 Gb Fiber Channel, 1 GbE, and FCIP Quality of Service technology to enable fast, reliable, and cost-effective remote data replication, backup, and migration.

Advanced functionality

The HPE 1606 Extension SAN Switch integrates unique next generation extension features like Fiber Channel routing, hardware based compression, write and read acceleration for disk and tape to deliver a high performance, highly reliable and secure distance connectivity solution.

Maximum application performance

The HPE 1606 Switch is based on a B-series 5th generation Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) and scales up to sixteen 8 Gb FC ports and six 1 GbE ports to provide unmatched Fiber Channel and FCIP bandwidth, port density, and throughput for maximum application performance over WAN links.

Low cost

The HPE 1606 Extension SAN switch leverages cost effective IP WAN transport to extend open systems and mainframe disk and tape storage applications over distances that would otherwise be impossible, impractical, or too expensive with standard Fiber Channel connections.

Investment protection

Available in three configurations, the HPE 1606 SAN Switch supports a variety of architectures and deployment models to address current and future SAN extension requirements. Optional SAN fabric services are available to address challenging extension and storage networking requirements.

"Pay-as-you-grow"

A base configuration is ideal for clients with smaller environments such as Small to Medium Enterprise (SME), yet provides the ability to grow as the business demands equating to investment protection while also affording no disruption in service.

Synchronous replication

1606 Extension SAN Switch supports simple point to point or comprehensive synchronous multisided SAN extension for a variety of strategic IT initiatives.

Centralized backup

1606 Extension switch provides a platform for centralized backup which reduces backup and recovery times to improve service levels.

Central point of management

1606 Switch enables unified management of Fiber Channel and FCIP network infrastructure to provide a central point of management for simplified administration.

Switch interoperability

The 1606 Extension Switch is fully compatible with the entire B-series family of FC switching platforms, delivering B-series advanced 8 Gb fabric services end-to-end over distance and providing investment protection for hardware.
